Pregnancy Trimester Spotlight

Pregnancy is generally broken down into three segments called trimesters. Each trimester presents its unique symptoms, joys and challenges, which make the experience of each trimester different. The following is a brief overview of each trimester. You can find more detailed information about each trimester by selecting it.

First Trimester

During the first trimester, your baby goes from one cell to a miniature human. This rapid growth and development requires many resources from mom, and you can probably feel it. Most women experience fatigue, frequent urination and about half experience morning sickness. Some women feel excited to be pregnant, others feel discouraged or let down.

Second Trimester

Most women find the second trimester very enjoyable. Your belly will become noticeable, you will begin to feel your baby move, and most women have gotten over the nausea from the first trimester. You may find yourself having unusual dreams, you may also find yourself anxious about the various prenatal tests offered to you. Now that your baby has grown all the parts, its time to get those parts working properly. Much of the second trimester is spent maturing the newly developed systems and increasing in overall size.

Third Trimester

Some women find their bodies become more and more uncomfortable during the third trimester. Exercise and proper nutrition can help, but cannot change the reality of a growing baby in your uterus. You may feel like you can never eat or that it is hard to take deep breaths because of the baby compressing your chest and abdomen. You baby is continuing to grow, putting on the final touches to make sure every system works properly. This is a good time to step up your kegel exercises to keep the pelvic floor strong and prevent incontinence.
