Hemorrhoids are varicose veins of the rectum. You may experience them from straining too hard when using the bathroom. They can be uncomfortable or itchy when you sit.

Some Women Have Tried...

  • Put a low stool under your feet while you use the toilet. This realigns the body and makes using the bathroom easier.
  • Be sure you are getting adequate water and fiber in your diet.
  • Avoid constipation, which will cause you to push harder when going to the bathroom.
  • Try walking and pelvic rocking as natural stimulants for the bowel.
  • Ice the sore area for some comfort and relief.
  • Try taking shallow, warm baths to soak the area for some comfort and relief.
  • Add four drops of geranium oil to your bath to help improve the circulation. Be aware that geranium should be very dilute when used in pregnancy.
  • Fill a jar with cotton balls or cotton gauze, cover with witch hazel and stick it in your refrigerator. After you go to the bathroom, stick a few cotton balls on the affected area, and leave them there for 20-30 minutes.
  • Use an infusion of horse chestnut, mullein, white oak bark and yarrow to help shrink hemorrhoid tissue.
  • Mix finely chopped garlic with cocoa butter. Heat over a double boiler for five minutes to ensure adequate blending. Cool and apply to hemorrhoids.
  • Chew on licorice root.
  • Apply calendula lotion to a cotton swab and dab this on sore tissue around the rectum after bowel movements.
