Avoiding Chemicals in Pregnancy

Some women find their sensitivity to chemicals increases while pregnant. Perfumes they enjoyed previously are now overpowering and may cause headaches. Even cleaning products can make some women feel tired or headachy during pregnancy. Whether you develop an increased sensitivity to chemicals, or just want to make your home a safer place, learning how to keep your home clean with safe tools is a great skill to have.

Alternative Cleaning Agents

You do not have to buy expensive natural cleaners to keep your home sparkling. For example, baking soda can be used as a scouring power. Vinegar can be mixed in a 50/50 solution with water to clean glass and mirrors. Vinegar or lemon juice can be used to cut grease. Germs can be killed with hot water. Baking soda makes a great scrub for just about everything, without scratching.

Steam Cleaning

If you are nervous about germs, a steam cleaner may be what you are looking for. The heat from the steam kills any germs and makes most surfaces easy to clean. They are small enough to be stored and used as frequently as necessary. Some come with attachments for cleaning floors and windows.

New Technology

Although a little costly, micro fiber cloths can help you keep your home cleaner with just water. Reusable cloths are able to be washed and line dried to be ready for the next dusting. Excellent at picking up dust and fingerprints, and not leaving any residue, these cloths make quick work of windows, mirrors and the fronts of appliances. There are products with the same technology designed to clean floors.
