Childbirth Meditations: Yield

Go, but go with caution.

Give way to the things that come across your path.

Let go of the things you don't need to control so you can focus your energy where it needs to be.

We sometimes assume we have the right-of-way, that we can do whatever we please. We sometimes move forward so fast everything is a blur. It is wiser to respect the yields placed before us. A simple pause can make your direction more clear.

If you are giving way to the things your body needs to do, is that really yielding? Can you yield to yourself?

Race cars can go 200 miles per hour, but only if they keep going around in circles. If they really want to go somewhere different they need to slow down and get on a different road.

Only one direction yields, the other has the right of way. If both directions yielded, the cars would be stuck at an intersection forever.

Encouraging words for you

"I believe that there is a subtle magnetism in Nature, which, if we unconsciously yield to it, will direct us aright. It is not indifferent to us which way we walk. There is a right way; but we are very liable from heedlessness and stupidity to take the wrong one. " - Henry David Thoreau

Questions to Work Through

  1. In what areas do you need to learn to yield?
  2. How does struggling for control affect you?
  3. What are you afraid will happen if you yield?
  4. In what way do you yield too much?
  5. What fears, worries and concerns do you yield to?
