What it is:
A bean bag chair is a large soft ball filled with small beans or cotton.
How it works:
The filling of the chair allows for flexibility in positioning.
How to use it:
The chair can be used in place of large pillows to help the mother find a comfortable position. Because of the large size of most bean bag chairs, they are able to support large portions of the mother's body.
Integrating it into labor:
Position a bean bag chair on the floor, then have the mother find the most comfortable sitting position.
Place a bean bag chair under the plastic liner of a birth pool to help for positioning during water labor or birth.
Place the bean bag on a bed. Have the mother use the bean bag chair as support for her upper body in a hands and knees position.
